Private Driver to Hikkaduwa, Sri Lanka
Coral reefs, sea turtles, beach town energy.
Hikkaduwa was Sri Lanka's first beach town to go international, back in the 70s surf-and-hippie era. It's still the easiest place on the island to snorkel a coral reef without a boat — wade out from the beach and within 30 metres you're swimming with reef fish and sea turtles. The town is bigger and more developed than Mirissa or Unawatuna.

FAQ — Hikkaduwa private driver
Do I need a guide to snorkel the reef?
No. The marine sanctuary is right off the beach in waist-deep water. Bring your own mask and fins, or rent at any beachfront shop for about USD 5 a day.
Is the reef still alive after the 2004 tsunami?
The reef was damaged but has recovered substantially. Coral cover is moderate; fish life and turtle sightings are excellent.
Is Hikkaduwa or Mirissa better?
Hikkaduwa for snorkelling and beach-town nightlife. Mirissa for whales, sunsets, and a quieter vibe. Both are easy to combine in one trip — they're 1 hr 15 min apart.
